My A5’s transmission is leaking from the pan – is this a DIY job or specialist only?
So I noticed a small puddle of transmission fluid under my 2016 A5 2.0 TFSI the other day, and when I got underneath to have a look, it seems like the leak is coming from the transmission pan gasket area. It’s not a massive leak, just a few drops overnight, but I know I need to get it sorted before it gets worse. I’m trying to decide whether this is something I could tackle myself or if I should just take it to a specialist. I’m pretty handy with cars and I’ve done oil changes and brake jobs before, but I’ve never touched a transmission before and I know they can be quite sensitive to things like fluid level and proper torque specs. I’ve been watching some videos online and it seems like dropping the transmission pan, replacing the gasket, and refilling with the correct fluid is doable for a competent DIYer, but I’m also aware that if I mess up the fluid level or use the wrong spec fluid, I could cause serious damage. I’m also not sure if the leak is actually just the gasket or if it could be coming from somewhere else like the drain plug or even a crack in the pan itself.
