Hi everyone, I’m hoping some fellow VW owners can weigh in here because I feel like I’m going crazy trying to figure out what a fair price is for a simple battery replacement. I have a 2017 Volkswagen Touareg that I bought used about two years ago and it’s been a really solid car for me. A few days ago I went to start it and the engine cranked really slowly before finally catching. The next morning the same thing happened but even slower. I know these are classic signs of a dying battery so I called my local Volkswagen dealership to ask about a replacement. The service advisor quoted me a price that honestly shocked me. I knew dealerships charge more than independent shops but this seemed excessive for just a battery. I asked him why it was so expensive and he said that Volkswagen Touaregs require a special AGM battery that has to be coded to the car’s computer. He made it sound like if I went anywhere else my car would have all sorts of electrical problems. I started calling around to independent garages and the prices varied wildly. One guy quoted me half of what the dealer wanted but when I asked if he could do the computer coding he sounded confused and said he didn’t know what I was talking about. That made me nervous because I’ve read that on modern Volkswagens you really do need to register the new battery so the charging system knows it’s new. If you skip that step the car might overcharge or undercharge the new battery and kill it prematurely. Then I found a company online that advertises itself as Volkswagen battery replacement specialists Dubai. Their website had detailed information about the coding process and they listed the exact brands of batteries they use which were the same high quality brands I’ve read about in forums. I called them and the person on the phone was very knowledgeable about Touaregs specifically which gave me confidence. He quoted me a price that was right in the middle, not as cheap as the guy who didn’t know about coding but significantly less than the dealership. Now I’m trying to decide if I should just pay the dealer price for peace of mind or take a chance on this independent specialist. Has anyone here actually used an independent shop for a Volkswagen battery replacement and had a good experience where everything worked properly afterwards? I’d really love to hear your stories before I make a decision. Thanks so much everyone.
