I run a tiny little plating and anodizing hobby setup in my back workshop in Ajman and for the longest time I’ve just been using those cheap galvanized trays from the hardware store under my tanks thinking I was being smart and safe, and last week I went to slide one out and the bottom basically disintegrated in my hand because the acid fumes and the occasional drip had eaten right through the zinc and the steel underneath had turned into this flaky orange nightmare that stained my floor when I tried to move it, so clearly I need to step up my containment game before I do some real damage to the concrete or myself. I was looking at those industrial UK made drip trays for chemical containment because a few people in the local makers group mentioned the coating on them is supposedly a lot tougher than the standard powder coat you get on the local pressed metal ones, but I’m honestly not sure if “chemical resistant” in the marketing copy means it can handle a few drops of diluted sulfuric or if it’s just talking about motor oil and coolant like every other tray out there. I don’t want to spend the extra cash only to find out the coating bubbles up and peels off the first time a bit of etchant solution splashes over the side of my tank, because at that point I’m just back to square one with a fancier looking puddle on the floor and a lighter wallet.
